Just another day on Rum

Rum spent most of yesterday in a very still, midgy and muggy cloud, so when ‘Sheerwater o’clock’ came we didn’t need to think twice. The water was so flat and calm yesterday that it was the perfect opportunity to go looking for creatures from the deep that the waves would normally make a bit more difficult to spot. So armed with camera and Power Ranger Mike Werndly (http://www.isleofrum.com/wildliferanger.php) to help do the spotting, off we went. And lucky us when a small pod of approx. 25 or so (I say small because last week a ‘super pod’ of more than 100 of the same short-beaked common dolphins was spotted) dolphins came to say hello and have a mess around by the boat. Yet another one of the things that makes us feel privilaged to be on Rum! Here are some of the pictures…

We later attended Ranger Mike’s talk about Rum at the village hall, aimed to give visitors a run down about the geographical and human history of Rum and let them know a bit about the creatures that live here now. It’s fascinating stuff and really well put across by Rngr. Mike, so anyone thinking of heading to Rum make time for the talk! Thats it for now…
